Art all around
Brothers Derek and Justin Ostensen wanted to bring artwork to people around the world in an unusual way – by combining art with electronics. So in 2002, the pair founded Ambiance Visuals. “This concept unifies my passion for art, and my interest in business and technology,” says Derek, 26.

Ambiance Visuals takes paintings, photography and video art, and transforms flat-screen televisions into a form of dynamic media. Derek is capitalizing on his idea that “the world is starting to tap into the artist in each of us.” Also, artists can sell their work on the new Web 2.0 site.

The artwork is found internationally in hotels, nightclubs and restaurants. But Derek wants Ambiance in more than just leisure settings. A project for Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa will allow developmentally disabled residents to experience a world they may never otherwise experience, visually and interactively. “We’re positively impacting people’s lives,” says Derek.
