Hello, Mary Lou’s!
The best entrepreneur stories are those about visionaries who fearlessly follow their passion and instincts, while the public enthusiastically responds.

Mary Lou’s Vintage Couture is one such story. Janet Brown, the mother of three, loves vintage clothing. She is a savvy shopper with an exacting eye. When friends, associates and people on the street continually asked her where she found her outfits, she started a vintage shopping service. From there, she began hosting trunk sales at boutiques, serving wine and truffles while giving fashion advice and celebrating the history of fashion.

All the while, she had been amassing a collection of antique jewelry, though she wasn’t sure how to use it. Then inspiration struck, and she started creating custom belt buckles and headbands.

“A friend and I went to South Coast Plaza to present my items to boutique owners,” says Brown. “We were both wearing the belt buckles, and people kept stopping us to ask where we bought them. One woman went to my car and was buying right out of the trunk.”

And in 2006, Mary Lou’s Vintage Couture – named after her beloved grandmother – was born. Now her items are featured in boutiques throughout Southern California and Las Vegas. She says they’re hot among celebrities and show no signs of cooling down.
