He says the newest funding will help the firm move forward with its growth strategy: BlueFire is working to create a viable alternative to transportation fuel through the production of ethanol from nonfood cellulosic wastes.
The $81.1 million will go toward Phase II construction of the plant. The project will allow BlueFire to use green and wood wastes in the region as feedstock for the biorefinery, which is expected to produce 18 million gallons of ethanol per year. The company is currently in the licensing and permitting stage for the plant.
This is the second planned biorefinery for the firm; its first is set for Lancaster and will use post-sorted cellulosic wastes that will be diverted from Southern California's landfills to produce nearly 4 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol per year. << PREVIOUS PAGE
