Las Palmas auction kicks off next week, continued ...

The innovative auction format also allows brokers to make as much money per transaction as possible – it's a positive, especially with the slowdown in the industry in recent months.

The project was originally built in the early 1970s, and MDC acquired the space in October 2006, with a vision to turn it into the largest industrial condominium conversion in the history of O.C. The company finished its renovations in April of last year, after spending nearly $4 million on the makeover. Among the improvements: removing all the existing landscape and older storefronts; putting in concrete walkups; new front doors; and utilizing a master-sign program.

And it's paid off: Bentrott says many people think it's a brand-new complex.

Minimum bids range from $299,000 to $950,000, depending on the size of the unit. For more information, visit laspalmasauction.com.
