Irvine's Quantum ships diesel hybrids to U.S. Army
Clandestine Extended Range Vehicles are designed for special operations missions.

Irvine-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide is working to develop and ship its diesel hybrid vehicles to the U.S. Army.
The company developed six of its Clandestine Extended Range Vehicles for the program, which are designed for fast-paced special operations missions that rely on reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting.
The firm is working with the U.S. Army's Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center National Automotive Center on the project. Two vehicles have been shipped, another two are ready to be delivered to support West Coast military demonstrations and the other two will remain at Quantum for ongoing development and testing.
The CERV uses Quantum's Q-Force, an advanced all-wheel-drive diesel hybrid electric powertrain. The Q-Force can reduce fuel consumption up to 25 percent compared to a standard vehicle. What's more, the vehicles also is equipped with a weapons ring designed by Quantum to enable higher power.
The new project follows a number of successful programs with the U.S. Army, according to Quantum President and CEO Alan Niedzwiecki.
