Gain expected in energy-efficient positions, continued ...

“These high-demand jobs pay livable wages ranging from $37,440 for an entry-level HVAC technician to $80,000 for experienced project managers, resource conservation or energy-efficiency managers and compliance analysts or energy-regulation specialists,” says Caldwell.

But, challenges still face the sector, due to the lack of qualified workers, among other issues.

“Now that we know what businesses need, we need to ensure that our community colleges are on track with developing a work force with the skills that are most needed,” says Caldwell.

Three areas are defined as key to supporting these positions and their growth in the local economy – communication skills; understanding of energy-efficiency requirements; and knowledge of the mechanics behind energy systems.

The Center of Excellence works with businesses and community colleges to address work force needs in the region.
