Event organizers marked the occasion with a banner drop and confetti at the site of CHOC Children’s new construction.

The donation funding will go toward sponsoring a new lobby for CHOC Children’s seven-story building in Orange, which is slated to open in spring 2013. The new building will include pediatric services and aims to become the safest children’s hospital in the country, through advanced design and safety applications. Disney will also collaborate on the design of the new lobby, with Imagineers helping to create an inviting area for young patients with many details and touches unique to Disney’s style.

A celebration at the hospital this morning marked the receipt of the gift. CHOC President and CEO Kim Cripe and Disneyland Resort President George Kalogridis were joined by Disney Ambassador Jolie Hayes, 14-year-old CHOC patient and Campaign Ambassador Tommy Conforti and, of course, Mickey Mouse, to recognize the occasion.

“Thanks to this generous $5 million gift, our ‘Change CHOC, Change the World’ campaign has surpassed the $100 million milestone,” Cripe said. “We are extremely fortunate to enjoy such a strong partnership with the Disneyland Resort, who understands there’s no higher purpose to philanthropy than to change, to heal and to save the life of a child.”

The history between CHOC and the Disney legacy dates back to 1960, when Walt Disney was named a founding member of the hospital’s executive council. Today, Kalogridis continues that support as a member of CHOC’s board of directors. Disneyland Resort has also hosted the hospital’s largest annual fundraiser, the CHOC Walk in the Park, for the last 21 years. Last year, 15,000 participants at the event raised more than $1.5 million, including the contributions of the Disney VoluntEARS walk team and the resort’s sponsored initiatives for the event, which brought in $240,000.

“Disney makes magical moments for millions of people every day, and it’s especially important for us to provide some Disney magic to support children during difficult times,” Kalogridis said. “On behalf of our 22,000 cast members and their families who live in this community, I am honored to show our support for CHOC, as together we build a community where children have the best opportunity to be healthy and happy.”

Related headlines
Disneyland Resort to host 26th annual AIDS Walk
Hyundai Hope on Wheels 5K benefits CHOC Children’s
CHOC launches brand marketing campaign

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/06/2012 12:35:00</publish_date>
Griffin-American purchases 3 buildings in southern states
The company’s clinical healthcare acquisition strategy is based off trends towards the “aging of America”
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The company’s clinical healthcare acquisition strategy is based off trends towards the “aging of America”
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Newport Beach-based Griffin American Healthcare REIT II recently obtained three medical office buildings in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina for $25.1 million. The company, formerly Grubb & Ellis Healthcare REIT II, currently holds a portfolio of 70 buildings valued at $630 million.

The three newly acquired buildings represent a total of 117,000-square-feet of medical office space, and each property is located on or near a regional medical center. Griffin-American Healthcare REIT II will further its purchase strategy of following demographic trends to indicate potential growth through the purchase of properties including medical office buildings, hospitals and surgery centers, or labs and research facilities, among others.

“We believe the aging of America is driving demand for healthcare services constantly higher throughout the country,” said Danny Prosky, the company’s president and COO. “Griffin-American Healthcare REIT II is designed to take advantage of this demographic wave through the acquisition of clinical healthcare facilities that produce immediate income for our investors. These latest additions to our portfolio meet these criteria and build upon our institutional-quality nationwide portfolio.”

The three newly obtained properties include Boynton East Medical Office Building in Boynton Beach, Florida, East-West Medical Office Building in Austell, Georgia, and Okatie Medical Office Building in Okatie, South Carolina. The two-story, 28,000-square-foot Boynton East Medical Office Building was built in 2003 and is 95 percent leased to eight tenants. The single-story, 42,000-square-foot East-West Medical Office Building was built in 1999 with 100 percent of the available space leased to two tenants. The three-story, 47,000-square-foot Okatie Medical Office Building was built in 1997 and 91 percent leased to three tenants.

Along with the three medical office buildings recently acquired, the Griffin American Healthcare REIT II holds properties in other states including California, Idaho, Texas, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Related headlines
Griffin-American Healthcare REIT II acquires 11 facilities
Griffin-American Healthcare REIT II completes transition
Grubb & Ellis Healthcare REIT II reorganizes management structure

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/06/2012 12:35:00</publish_date>
Mazda unveils the 2012 MX-5 Miata Special Edition
The automaker is only producing a limited edition run of 450 models for this best-selling two-door roadster
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The automaker is only producing a limited edition run of 450 models for this best-selling two-door roadster
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Known for its Zoom-Zoom campaign, Irvine-based Mazda North American Operations will debut its 2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition at this year’s 104th edition of the Chicago Auto Show. The two main bidders vying to purchase the 30.9-acre campus and its associated buildings were Chapman University and the Catholic Diocese, with each side increasing their purchase offers. While at the outset it appeared that Chapman’s offer was favored, due to a clause that would allow the Ministry to repurchase core buildings on the campus (including the Crystal Cathedral itself), the Cathedral’s board had a last-minute change of heart and selected the Catholic Diocese’s offer, which was a higher dollar figure.

The close of escrow on the $57.5 million sale means that the formal transfer of title has been completed. While the Diocese is now the full owner of the campus and buildings, use of the Cathedral and property by the Catholic congregation will not occur for some time. Under the terms of the purchase agreement, Crystal Cathedral Ministries can remain and worship at its former home for three more years, leasing it back from the Diocese for $100,000 per month for the first year, and $150,000 per month for the next two years. At the end of that time, the Ministry would be required to move to another place to continue services, possibly a nearby Catholic church; the Diocese has offered to facilitate a long-term lease of St. Callistus Church in Garden Grove.

When the Diocese does assume full use of the property and before it begins services in the Crystal Cathedral, a few architectural changes will be made to the building to make it appropriate for the Catholic liturgy. However, Bishop Tod Brown has said that the Diocese aims to maintain the integrity of the Cathedral’s status as a landmark.

“Our goal is to preserve an already cherished religious landmark and to enhance its worship use for Orange County Catholics and all people of faith who may be inspired by this wonderful, now Catholic, cathedral,” Brown said

Another change to come is the renaming of the Cathedral. Brown told the O.C. Register that he will ask members of the Diocese to help in coming up with a new name for the building. Davis received a $10,000 grant to an engineering program of his choice as part of the honor.

The award recognizes engineers for their outstanding achievement in improving the quality of electronics components, products and systems. Davis was given the nod for his innovative testing techniques that enabled his team to develop the BCM4330, Broadcom's flagship wireless combo chip.

“Davis takes pride in applying his leadership in the continuous development of new test methodologies, trying to keep his team one step ahead of test requirements,” said Michael Hurlston, Broadcom senior vice president.

Davis is a technique specialist and team leader on the WLAN (wireless local area network) hardware team. While helping to develop on the BCM4330 chip – which works with multiple wireless systems, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM radio – testing speeds were three times faster than previous efforts.

“By greatly improving test turnaround time and providing invaluable insights to design teams to improve testability of future chips, Brad has enabled Broadcom to produce the leading WLAN product in the world,” said Hurlston.

Related headlines
Broadcom launches line of 5G chips
Broadcom improves connectivity of cars
Broadcom to provide samsung with semiconductor location chip

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/03/2012 14:15:00</publish_date>
Fisker Automotive expands Canadian presence
The luxury hybrid automaker now has retailers in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The luxury hybrid automaker now has retailers in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Canada has become the latest addition to a growing list of countries where luxury car aficionados and those concerned about the environment can finally make a statement on the road. Fisker Automotive has established partnerships with two Canadian automotive retailer groups as part of its international expansion, making its flagship vehicle available to Canadian buyers.

The Anaheim-based automaker and creator of the luxury hybrid Fisker Karma has partnered with two automotive groups that will provide retail outlets for the Karma in three markets.

Fisker’s partner in Toronto and Calgary is the Dilawri Group, Canada’s largest automotive dealer group. Not only will the company oversee the new Fisker of Calgary, it will place a unique new retail location, Fisker of Toronto, at the Shops at Don Mills, the only open-air mall in Toronto.

In Vancouver, Fisker will partner with the family-owned Fields Automotive Group, adding to the company’s 29 North American dealerships.

“Both Dilawri and Fields have the premium brand experience we want, and that the customers expect, in launching a new luxury brand specializing in uncompromised responsible luxury,” said Matt Malfitano, Fisker’s director of North American Market Operations.

The opening of these new dealerships coincides with the Canadian government’s promotion of hybrid and plug-in vehicle adoption, with the goal of 500,000 plug-in vehicles on the road by 2018.

To aid in achieving this goal, the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec are all offering buyers of plug-in hybrids and other green technology vehicles purchase incentives amounting to $5,000 to $8,500 (Canadian). Individually, the provinces offer additional perks to hybrid owners as well; Ontario allows hybrid drivers unrestricted access to HOV lanes, and Quebec reimburses half the cost of charging stations for plug-in vehicle owners.

The 2012 Fisker Karma, priced at $102,000, is already available for sale in the U.S. More Canadian and international dealerships are planned in the coming months.

Related headlines
Fisker Karma featured at London's Harrods
Fisker Karma takes AUTOMOBILE’s Design of the Year Award
Fisker Automotive gets the green light from EPA

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/03/2012 12:05:00</publish_date>
Susan’s Healthy Gourmet expands its menu for 2012
Healthy new menu items cater to a variety of dietary needs
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
Healthy new menu items cater to a variety of dietary needs
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Irvine-based Susan’s Healthy Gourmet has revealed its new menu for 2012, offering more meal choices and flexibility in ordering. The coverage is not transferable, and does not apply to lease and commercial vehicles or vehicles serviced outside the U.S.

The automaker introduced the warranty earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which will cover all U.S. 2012 model year Sonata Hybrids and is the first of its kind in the industry. The coverage extends the benefits of Hyundai Assurance, which includes the 5-year/60,000-mile fully transferable new vehicle warranty, the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain promise, and five years of complimentary Roadside Assistance.

"Even with all the hybrid vehicle options on the market today, there is still limited demand for these vehicles because of barriers to customer adoption such as uncertainty about the technology and performance," said Michael O'Brien, Hyundai’s vice president of corporate and product planning. "By offering the Lifetime Battery Replacement Guarantee, Hyundai is addressing customer concerns and demonstrating our confidence in the durability of our product."

The Hybrid Sonata, along with its Hybrid Blue Drive technology, carries a lithium polymer battery pack, making Hyundai the first automaker in the world to integrate such power-efficient battery technology into production vehicles. The “next generation” of lithium ion technology, lithium polymer is ideally apt for automotive applications based upon its durable and trusted chemistry.

Developed with Hyundai's partner, LG Chem, the lithium polymer cells harbor a manganese spinel framework that creates a suitable balance between power delivery, energy density and thermal stability. Thermal stability is an fundamental component in securing durability, erasing the need to replace the battery pack during the normal lifespan of the vehicle.

Related headlines
Hyundai Elantra lands on fuel-efficiency top-10 list
Hyundai’s fuel-efficient sales skyrocket
Report: Hyundai maintains No. 1 brand loyalty

recently began construction on the expansion of the Orange County Water District’s (OCWD) groundwater replenishment system.

The groundwater replenishment system (GWRS) treats and purifies wastewater, diverting it from the Pacific Ocean and cycling it back into Orange County’s water supply. The largest water treatment facility of its kind in the world, the GWRS processes 70 million gallons of water per day.

The project includes the expansion of its micro-filtration facility; construction of two new above-ground steel tanks, which can hold 7.5 million gallons of water apiece; and eight new water treatment basins. McCarthy will also build a new 32,000-square-foot reverse-osmosis building, increasing the Fountain Valley facility’s capacity by 30 million gallons per day.

“The GWRS has provided a reliable, locally controlled source of water for Orange County during a time when the availability of imported water is decreasing while its cost is increasing,” said Mike Markus, OCWD general manager. We live in a naturally arid region. The GWRS Expansion will provide us with the water-supply reliability that we need while creating hundreds of local jobs that will benefit Orange County’s economy through the development, construction and operation of the project.”

McCarthy executive vice president Mark Mardock said, “It’s exciting to not only be involved with an internationally renowned project, but also helping to provide a environmentally responsible, reliable and safe source of water, which is critical to the public health and economy of Orange County.”

The project, conducted by the OCWD and the Orange County Sanitation District, is scheduled for completion in September 2014. Parsons, headquartered in Pasadena, is the project’s construction manager, while Black and Veatch of Irvine will provide the structural, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering services.

Related headlines
McCarthy Building Cos. receives CorpU Award
McCarthy Building earns Performance Excellence award
Santa Ana residents, local businesses build Latino Health Access Park

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/02/2012 14:55:00</publish_date>
Federal bill lays groundwork for new transportation projects
The OCTA is enthusiastic in its support of the new legislation
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The OCTA is enthusiastic in its support of the new legislation
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Yesterday, a new bill came before congress that outlines steps that will allow Orange County to undertake a number of infrastructure projects in the coming years, creating thousands of local jobs. The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is voicing its strong support for the legislation, and has created the ‘Breaking Down Barriers’ initiative to fuel support for the bill and speed its passage.

Representatives from OCTA are praising Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, for his work on releasing the federal transportation reauthorization bill. The legislation would provide $260 billion in funding for infrastructure projects over the next four and a half years, while issuing much-needed changes to current projects and processes.

“Infrastructure projects are one of the best ways to create jobs and keep America moving, but there are many barriers that add significant delays,” said Jerry Amante, OCTA director and Tustin councilmember. “We can break through those barriers by supporting the accelerated project delivery provisions outlined in this transportation bill.”

The bill’s main terms include removing the bureaucratic barriers that impede the progress of infrastructure projects and streamlining the environmental review process by delegating it to state agencies. Other provisions include integrating planning and programming approaches for infrastructure projects.

“Investing in our transportation systems is essential to ensuring our country’s prosperity,” said OCTA chairman and Laguna Niguel mayor Paul Glaab. “This bill puts America on the right track to making much-needed transportation improvements while creating jobs that pay well.”

The Breaking Down Barriers initiative is a national strategy led by OCTA to facilitate project delivery, while maintaining safe processes for protecting the environment, and expediting the creation of more than 800,000 jobs.

Related headlines
OCTA pumps $72.5 million into SR-91
OCTA receives $9.3 million in federal grants
OCTA breaks ground on $600 million project

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/02/2012 12:05:00</publish_date>
Zix Corporation names Virtual Graffiti 2011 Partner of the Year
The collaboration continues to broaden and brings growth opportunities to both companies
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The collaboration continues to broaden and brings growth opportunities to both companies
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Irvine-based Zix Corporation, a leading email encryption service, has recognized Virtual Graffiti Inc. as the 2011 ZixCorp Partner of the Year. The final event will be a reception to conclude the program around Thanksgiving.

On top of the toy drive, other possible events over the next ten months will include serving food at local shelters, participating in beach clean-up efforts, sending care packages to military troops and hosting free computer-training workshops.

“Tekcetera is proud to be in this position after 10 years in business and we look forward to the next 10 months and beyond of thanking the Orange County community that has supported us over the years,” said Pitts.

Related headlines
Local nonprofits launch month-long campaign in support of patients
C&G Technologies marks 10th anniversary, launches new online resource site
Pacific Life Foundation dedicates $2.4 million to local nonprofit organizations

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/02/2012 09:25:00</publish_date>
January car sales offer mixed results
O.C. automakers see increases, declines in the first month of 2012
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
O.C. automakers see increases, declines in the first month of 2012
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>After a record year of sales in 2011 for most of Orange County’s five automakers, 2012 started off with a bang for some and less successfully for others.

Mazda came out on top last month, recording its best January sales since 1994. U.S. sales came in at 23,996 vehicles, which amounts to a 68.2 percent increase over 2011’s January numbers. Other highlights include a 532.6 percent leap in Mazda2 sales in January, a 118.3 percent increase in Mazda6 sales and an 83.4 increase in Mazda3 sales.

Kia was another big winner for the opening month of 2012. On top of its record-breaking sales and increasing market share in 2011, the Irvine-based automaker reported January sales of 35,517 units in the U.S. during the month, an increase of 27.8 percent over 2011’s numbers. The brand also continues to build on its upward trajectory, marking its 17th straight month of sales records.

Byung Mo Ahn, Kia Motors America group president and CEO, attributed some of the brand’s success to an aggressive new product launch cycle, including nine new vehicles in less than three years, and a $100 million expansion of a Georgia manufacturing plant, which he also heads.

"Kia is well positioned for future growth as we further our efforts to increase brand visibility and awareness," Ahn said. "With several high-profile marketing initiatives on the horizon and the arrival of fuel efficient products such as the Rio 5-door and sedan … Kia will continue to attract new customers to our showrooms by offering high-quality cars and CUVs with world-class design, cutting-edge technologies and fun-to-drive performance."

Fountain Valley-based Hyundai (currently in offices in Costa Mesa) also saw increased sales over 2011. Total U.S. January sales of 42, 694 units marked a 19 percent increase over the same time in 2011, with sales for the Elantra up 13 percent and the Genesis/Equus showing a 27 percent increase.

"January was a good month for us as Januarys go. We set an all-time sales record for the month, saw continued stabilization in the general economy, and witnessed the Hyundai Elantra crowned as North American Car of the Year," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's executive vice president of national sales. "All in all, a very solid base to build off in 2012."

For Cypress-based Mitsubishi, U.S. sales came in at 4,711 for the month, down 17.6 percent compared to the same time in 2011. Sales for some individual models increased, however, including the Outlander (up 2.2 percent), the Outlander Sport (up 5 percent) and the Lancer Evolution (a 10.7 percent increase).

"January was an encouraging month in several respects," said Mitsubishi Motors North America president and CEO, Yoichi Yokozawa. "Many Mitsubishi dealerships showed healthy increases for the month, and we are gaining great momentum from the roll-out of our exciting new all-electric Mitsubishi i."

The automaker is also looking ahead to the summer of 2012, when the Mitsubishi i becomes available for purchase across the U.S. The brand’s first all-electric vehicle is already available for preorder at i-certified Mitsubishi dealerships and online at the automaker’s website.

Suzuki saw sales decline in January, as well. Total units sold last month came to 1,505, compared to 2011’s 2,562, a decline of 41 percent. The Brea-based automaker, also known for its ATVs, motorcycles and outboard motors, has discontinued some of its car models in recent years.

Related headlines
O.C. automakers release 2011 sales results
The Orange County Auto Show rolls into Anaheim
Kelley Blue Book predicts a rise in January new-car sales

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/02/2012 08:00:00</publish_date>
Affordable housing community created by 2 O.C. firms
KTGY and Urban Housing Communities developed and designed the South Los Angeles neighborhood.
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
KTGY and Urban Housing Communities developed and designed the South Los Angeles neighborhood.
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Santa Ana-based Urban Housing Communities (UHC) recently opened a new residential community, The Crossings on 29th Street, in South Los Angeles. The locale was designed by architecture firm KTGY Group Inc., headquartered in Irvine.

UHC worked with South L.A. councilmember Jan Perry, along with the local Community Redevelopment Agency, to transform an industrial site into an affordable community for families earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area’s median income.

“The Crossings on 29th Street effectively blends eco-friendly housing with free supportive onsite services to help residents move toward a life of stability and opportunity while becoming self-sustaining members of their community,” said Alan Scales, KTGY’s studio director.

The architecture firm designed the 24 two-bedroom townhomes and 10 three-bedroom apartment homes to include open space and eco-friendly features that exceed Title 24 efficiency standards by more than 30 percent.

Located on grounds is a recreation center, computer lab, media center, kitchen and laundry facilities. Residents also have their own parking spaces, as well as barbecues, picnic tables, a tot lot and seating areas to encourage family interaction.

UHC partnered with Western Community Housing to provide health and wellness services, classes, job assistance, life skills training, youth programs and community-building activities.

“The journey to get to the opening of the Crossings on 29th Street has been wonderful and life-changing,” said Douglas R. Bigley, president of Urban Housing Communities. "We are grateful to Councilwoman Jan Perry, the community organizations, and our governmental and financial partners for their dedication and for allowing us to provide safe, eco-friendly, affordable living to the families of this deserving community.”

Related headlines
WNC provides $9.5M to build 70-unit affordable housing community
Locally designed affordable housing community opens in Big Bear Lake
KTGY employees volunteer at The Blind Children’s Learning Center

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/02/2012 07:45:00</publish_date>
VIZIO nominated in four categories at the Stevie Awards
The company’s South Dakota division is recognized for its stellar customer service.
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The company’s South Dakota division is recognized for its stellar customer service.
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Irvine-based VIZIO's Dakota Dunes Contact Center has been named a finalist for Contact Center

The new program will allow dealers to research local auctions, specific vehicle information and any vital vehicle information in one convenient location.

Juan Flores, Kelley Blue Book’s director of vehicle valuation, said the new program will be highly beneficial to dealers in performing their research for the best deal.

“Having the vehicle valuation readily available during a live auction not only empowers the dealer to make the best purchase decision for his or her lot, but also offers relevant and timely information about what should be paid for a particular model.”

Kelley Blue Book is one of the most relied-on information sources for vehicle valuation by both consumers and auto dealers. Through hundreds of data sources, the company provides information on vehicle pricing for both new and used cars along with other vehicle information through auto manufacturers, finance and insurance companies.

Related headlines
Kelley Blue Book predicts a rise in January new-car sales
Kelley Blue Book urges buyers to look at used cars
Irvine-based Kelley Blue Book enhances its service

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/01/2012 12:05:00</publish_date>
T3 Motion signs contract with Singapore Police Department
The electric vehicles will be used to patrol Changi Airport
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The electric vehicles will be used to patrol Changi Airport
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>T3 Motion, a Costa Mesa-based designer and manufacturer of environmentally friendly personal vehicles, has been contracted by the Singapore Police Department to provide its electric vehicles for Singapore’s Changi International Airport. Specifically, the rugged Getac B300 notebook computer has been selected by the USAF to fulfill the program’s laptop computer category.

The Air Force Information Technology Commodity Council was in charge of the selection process, evaluating vendor products for the program on the basis of quality, performance and price. Another major criterion was whether the products met the Air Force’s stringent security requirements. The Getac B300 was selected for the program for meeting all of these criteria, as well as its superior performance in all environmental conditions. Compatibility, price and quality were all contributing factors in the decision.

“We have had a fantastic relationship with the Air Force and are very excited to have the B300 selected for the QEB program," said Jim Rimay, president of Getac. "Our ability to consistently produce high quality products that meet the strict guidelines of government agencies is certainly something in which we take a lot of pride. Reliability in extreme conditions, especially in remote locations, is the top consideration for everyone using rugged devices, and the Air Force is certainly no exception.”

Getac’s field-use notebook computers are designed to operate in and withstand all environments and conditions. The B300 features a dual battery system that offers up to 30 hours of battery life in the field and advanced security features that include a fingerprint scanner and an optional smart card reader. The computer’s built-in magnesium alloy case and sealed input/output caps and doors offer the best protection against solid particles and moisture. It also features a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Turbo Boost Technology of up to 3.2 GHz. The USAF QEB commission includes the optional QuadraClear LED display, which is readable in bright sunlight, 100 mW high-power wi-fi, and a 120 GB solid state hard drive with 128-bit encryption.

As part of the Quantum Enterprise Buy program, the Getac B300 will be manufactured by Viginia-based NCS Technologies under a license agreement with Getac.

"Receiving the QEB contract for the B300 fully rugged notebook computer represents the consistent quality that Getac products bring to the market, along with NCS's world class service, engineering and manufacturing prowess, to deliver the highest-performance rugged computing platforms to the Air Force," said An Nguyen, president of NCS Technologies.

More information about the Getac B300 QEB configuration can be found here.

Related headlines
Getac signs deal with U.S. Air Force
Getac adds 3G wireless coverage to its line of computers
Lake Forest-based Getac launches new rugged GPS handheld device

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/01/2012 07:45:00</publish_date>
Zeacom Contact Center now available on Microsoft’s Lync platform
The new system adds more options for companies looking for a new call center platform.
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The new system adds more options for companies looking for a new call center platform.
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Zeacom, an Irvine-based communications services provider, has released its Zeacom Contact Center (ZCC) for Microsoft’s telephony platform, Lync. Our heritage of using other manufacturers’ native methods of integration gives us a proven track record of delivering highly functional call center and business process automation solutions.

“We are committed to enabling our partners and systems integrators to derive profits from the delivery of process automation and professional services,” Williams added. “Together with our architectural advantages, and the range of choice clients have for telephony, we see a tremendous growth opportunity with this release.”

Related headlines
YouMail partners with LetsTalk.com
AnyMeeting has integrated with the Google Apps Marketplace
Microsoft to open South Coast Plaza store

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>

<publish_date>02/01/2012 06:45:00</publish_date>
Local nonprofits launch month-long campaign in support of patients
The R.A.R.E Project and Global Genes Project advocate for the 30 million Americans with uncommon maladies
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The R.A.R.E Project and Global Genes Project advocate for the 30 million Americans with uncommon maladies
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>The R.A.R.E. Triune has designed two products that will integrate the nanoSmart circuit: the TS14001 and the TS12001.

“We chose to develop this ultra-low-power technology for analog and power management applications with TowerJazz, because they offered the best process for our needs and were willing to work with us on differentiated out-of-the-box solutions,” said Ross Teggatz, president of Triune Systems. “Our nanoSmart technology further leverages TowerJazz’s processes to provide truly unique solutions that can virtually eliminate the carbon footprint of any product while in standby mode, and we look forward to developing several new and exciting products around this.”

With low-power applications in mind, the new circuit is designed to target portable consumer, industrial and medical uses, SmartCard applications, and off-grid autonomous systems and energy-harvesting systems like solar panels. IDTechEx predicts that this last market will increase dramatically in the next decade. According to its forecast, 10 billion-plus energy-harvesting devices will ship by 2019, an increase of 20 times the approximate 500 million devices that shipped in 2009.

The nanoSmart technology brings a number of benefits, including ultra-low power loss during the off-active phase for light-load conditions and the flexibility to work with a wide range of output loads while still capable of high efficiency operation. The nanoSmart technology can also be used to minimize or eliminate standby power loss for systems and extend battery life on portable technology products.

“TowerJazz continually draws on our customers’ needs to drive our technology offerings,” said Dr. Avi Strum, vice president and general manager of the Specialty Business Unit at TowerJazz. “And, the fact that power management experts such as Triune’s engineers chose TowerJazz’s power platform is proof of our technology superiority. Triune has been a valued partner for several years, and their inputs have contributed to the best-in-class power management technology we have today. The device performance capability of nanoSmart demonstrates what cooperation and flexibility can achieve in implementing new ideas.”

Related headlines
Broadcom launches line of 5G chips
Mindspeed Technologies hits sales milestone
Mindspeed acquires Picochip for $51.8 million

</PageContent>

<publish_date>01/31/2012 12:40:00</publish_date>
Journelle taps JustEnough for Advanced Planning SuiteApp
JustEnough software fulfills Journelle’s requirements for better management and meeting consumers’ needs
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
JustEnough software fulfills Journelle’s requirements for better management and meeting consumers’ needs
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Newport Beach-based JustEnough Software Corp.’s Advanced Planning SuiteApp for NetSuite’s SuiteCloud computing platform has been selected by New York City’s premier lingerie store Journelle. Landmark plans to redevelop the 95,326-square-foot property into Asheboro Lofts, a 70-unit affordable housing community.

Landmark will use the former Asheboro Hosiery Mill and Cranford Furniture Mill’s existing architectural features to mold a distinct, industrially influenced design. Each unit will feature large windows, high ceilings, and other historical elements reminiscent of the former mills, which were constructed in 1917 and 1925, respectively.

The plan for the community includes 20 one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units and 18 three-bedroom units, each incorporating energy-efficient designs, high-speed Internet service, and new appliances. Community amenities will offer a technology learning center, exercise room, playground, and wide outdoor sitting and picnic areas.

Located within a one-mile radius from two major highways and public transportation, the project is also located within a well-developed commercial and residential area. The central location allows residents to be within easy distance to a wide range of dining, shopping and recreational options. Furthermore, an elementary, middle and high school is in close distance to the projected community.

“Asheboro has experienced steady population growth, creating the need for well-located, affordable housing options,” said Tom Maxwell, vice president of originations at WNC. “This project will transform a non-productive former industrial site into a thriving residential property with state-of-the-art amenities.”

The $12.1 million project will be aided by federal historic tax credits and State Mill Rehabilitation tax credits, in addition to LIHTC, as appropriated by the North Carolina Housing Financing Agency. An indirect federal subsidy, the LIHTC program assists low-income households with affordable rental housing.

The Landmark Group’s property management arm, Landmark Property Management Company (LPMC), will manage the site. LMPC currently oversees 3,078 residential units and 71 commercial units.

WNC focuses on Low Income Housing Tax Credits and New Market Tax Credit and has acquired over $5 billion of assets extending in more than 1,050 properties in 45 states. Moreover, WNC has been awarded four NMTC allocations to date, totaling $178 million, and has helped in the development of 13 low-income community projects.

Related headlines
WNC helps finance development of New Brunswick Wellness Plaza in ‘food desert’
Neighborhoods -- Awards and Honors
Locally designed affordable housing community opens in Big Bear Lake

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>

<publish_date>01/31/2012 09:35:00</publish_date>
FlexEnergy appoints three new board members
The new executives each bring more than 30 years of industry experience.
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The new executives each bring more than 30 years of industry experience.
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>Irvine-based FlexEnergy has named three new members to its Board of Directors. The new board appointees include Chuck Packard of INGENCO; John Ryan, recently with Dresser Inc.; and Steve Krablin, formerly with T-3 Energy Services Inc. and National Oilwell Varco.

FlexEnergy, a renewable energy firm that produces both clean energy and renewable energy generators, creates its power through its two repurposing units, the Flex Turbine and the Flex Powerstation. Both use renewable “waste” fuels – in the form of methane gas produced by landfills, coal mines and digesters – to produce clean electricity.

"Our three newest board members are visionaries who have helped shape the energy industry," said Joe Perry, chief executive officer of FlexEnergy. "Each brings over thirty years of leadership experience, and their extensive knowledge of the industry will assist FlexEnergy to continue to grow and succeed as a company."

Among the new board appointees, Packard, president and CEO of INGENCO, has had a 25-year career as a leader in the cogeneration and independent power production field of the landfill-gas-to-energy marketplace. As such, his experience and expertise is particularly valuable to FlexEnergy, where he will help with installation-specific planning and the de-risking of new equipment.

In his previous role as president and CEO at Dresser Inc., Ryan led the company during a period of growth and oversaw its successful acquisition by General Electric. In his new position on FlexEnergy’s board, Ryan will help with the firm’s sales strategies and strategic planning.

Krablin, former CEO of T-3 Energy Services Inc., previously served as CFO of National Oilwell Varco for nine years. The event will take place on Monday, Feb. 27, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Scott Lamoureux, Meritus Payment Soltions’ operations manager, has been named a finalist for the Customer Service Manager of the Year award, due to the company’s growth in 2011; the Orange County Business Journal ranked the firm fourth among the Fastest Growing Private Companies in the county.

What began in 2002 with Michael P. Gallagher as a competition to celebrate the success of businesses worldwide has led to more than 1,000 entries for the 2012 Stevie Awards. The first event, held in April 2003 with 48 categories, was judged by the editor of Forbes magazine, Rich Karlgaard, and the dean of the School of Management at George Mason University, Richard Klimoski, among others.

“We are privileged to have Scott,” said Alan Kleinman, principal of Meritus. “Scott has the strategic vision to identify and apply the necessary infrastructure to achieve higher-level goals. Scott leads by example and was voted 2011 Employee of the Year by his peers. We are proud that he has been recognized by the wider professional community, and we look forward to his future achievements.”

Related stories
6 Orange County businesses presented with Stevie Awards
Irvine-based Epicor nets Stevie Award
Irvine-based Future Ads wins 2 national honors
Toshiba of Irvine gets Stevie Awards nod

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>

<publish_date>01/31/2012 07:00:00</publish_date>
HID Global completes secure identity object test at Arizona State University
The Irvine digital-security firm applied the long-term study to smartphones.
<TopicImage50x50Thumbnail></TopicImage50x50Thumbnail>
The Irvine digital-security firm applied the long-term study to smartphones.
<medium_image_caption></medium_image_caption><medium_image></medium_image><PageContent>HID Global, an Irvine-based company that specializes in digital identity and security, yesterday completed the world’s first university pilot study of NFC smartphones possessing digital security keys.

In the study, the firm used its secure identity object technology, a key attribute of its iCLASS SIO-Enabled (iCLASS SE) credential and condensed platform, which changes how identity is transmitted and maintained while allowing new levels of access control security, portability and performance. The study was conducted at Arizona State University.

“The completion of this pilot is an important step toward global deployment of mobile access control technology beyond cashless payment applications,” said Debra Spitler, vice president of mobile access solutions with HID Global. “The pilot results have clearly demonstrated the benefits of opening doors using digital credentials that have been securely embedded into NFC smartphones. We are very pleased with the results, and appreciate all of the valuable help from [Arizona State University] and pilot partners ASSA ABLOY Americas, Device Fidelity, Kratos/HBE, Research In Motion and Verizon Wireless.”

The mobile access control pilot at the university was the first to validate the use of digital credentials on near NFC (near field communication enabled) smartphones for physical access control on a college campus. A group of ASU staff and students were provided with the smartphones carrying HID Global’s iCLASS SE technology, which garnered attention at several tech conferences in 2011, including ASIS International and CARTES & IDentification. The pilot participants gained entry to their residence halls and rooms by displaying the phones to their door readers, just like they do with their iCLASS-based campus ID cards. Participants operated on a range of popular smartphones connected to all major mobile networks.

Humphrey Chen, executive director of new technologies and new market development for Verizon Wireless, commented that the study had long-reaching market implications for many markets.

”From a pilot perspective, it was clear that the students loved it, and they want it. The pilot gave us a clear indication that people would use their smartphones to unlock their dorm room doors, and this technology can be used for office doors and home doors, too.”

Laura Ploughe, director of business applications and fiscal control of the University Business Services, said she believes the staff and students place high value on using their phones for more and more applications, even opening doors throughout the campus. After receiving positive feedback during the test program in September, Ploughe hopes to create a future-projected campus where virtual identities can be created for each registering student and then dispersed to him or her via a mobile application.

Related headlines
HID Global enhances Saudi Arabia ID Cards
HD Global acquires EasyLobby
HID Globlal releases new access- control readers, contactless smart cards

        Content recommendations from            Evri

</PageContent>
