The new patent adds one more to the company’s already robust portfolio of over 60 issued and pending patents.

This new patent covers Quantum’s bi-directional fuel system that uniquely configures the fuel storage tank, regulator, check valve, fill line, and distal pressure delayer. The distal pressure delayer in particular provides important safety features that protect the various components while a vehicle is rapidly refueling and consuming natural gas.

“We have a strong and innovative record in system engineering,” said Brian Olson, Quantum’s President and C.E.O. “We continue to innovate and enhance our advanced natural gas fuel systems that incorporate our industry-leading ultra-lightweight storage tanks.”

Quantum produces some of the lightest and highest-capacity natural gas and hydrogen storage systems on the market. The award of the new patent is another sign that the Lake Forest-based company continues to innovate in the alternative energy and hybrid vehicle sector. At the beginning of last year, the company launched a composite compressed natural gas fuel system aimed at the large truck market, and it signed a $2.5 million deal with GreenKraft earlier this month to outfit that company’s fleet of medium-duty trucks with its fuel systems.
