Fullerton Technology Foundation raises nearly $2 million for local schools
The Fullerton Technology Foundation has announced that, since its inception in 2006, the organization has raised nearly $2 million to support the Fullerton School District and its mission to provide students access to the most current technology. The foundation attributes much of its success to the aggressive fundraising efforts of Fullerton School District Trustee Hilda Sugarman, her son Jason, and the Sugarman Family Trust.
As the foundation begins to prepare for another year, Jason Sugarman reflected on the growing scope of his fundraising endeavors, namely the upcoming, third-annual Toast to Education at the Fullerton Arboretum.
“What started out as $50 dinners and a speech, has turned into the most successful elementary school fundraiser in Orange County,” he said. The Toast to Education wine auction was Jason’s brainchild, and when the foundation hosted the first auction in 2011, the event raised $85,000 for the charity. The second even, held last year, brought in $125,000.
“Jason is exemplary,” Hilda Sugarman said of her son. “He is an example of someone who realizes the needs in public education and is generous to support those schools that got him where he is today.”
The Sugarmans have been with the Fullerton Technology Foundation from the very beginning; they donated the initial $250,000 that helped start the foundation in 2006. Since then, the foundation has provided thousands of electronic devices, including laptops, iPads, digital microscopes, digital cameras, sound systems and interactive boards, to students and teachers across the Fullerton School District.
Jason Sugarman was educated in the Fullerton School District, and Hilda Sugarman has been on the district’s Board of Trustees since 1996. Currently, Jason Sugarman is the CEO of MKA Capital Advisors, an investment management firm based in Newport Beach.
The third annual Toast to Education wine auction will take place on June 1, 2013 at the Fullerton Arboretum.
