![]() The second annual event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Irvine Valley College, is a service of Irvine-based nonprofit Families Forward. Participating agencies include Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian; Legal Aid Society; Consumer Credit Counseling Services; the Fair Housing Council; American Red Cross; Planned Parenthood; Saddleback Memorial Medical Center; and California Public Utilities Commission. Families Forward has received an "unprecedented number" of requests for help from local families who have been impacted by the economic downturn, according to Margie Wakeham, executive director of the nonprofit. "We are thrilled at the response from the community, including the city of Irvine, the county of Orange, Irvine Valley College and of course all of the health-care, legal, professional and other organizations that are participating," she says. Families Forward has a 26-year history in Orange County of providing transitional housing, homeless-prevention programs, food pantry and other services that promote self-sufficiency.
