Local firms honored at annual architecture awards
The American Institute of Architects Orange County recognized excellence in design.

Image courtesy of LPAThe American Institute of Architects Orange County honored five architect firms – including two local offices – during its annual Awards of Excellence Design Competition gala, held earlier this month at the Noguchi Garden in Costa Mesa.
Irvine-based LPA Inc. took home two Merit Awards for its Cal State Northridge Student Recreation Center and Orange Coast College IDC Building designs. And Frank R. Webb Architects, which has an office in Fullerton, took home a Merit Award for design of Studio 1016 (also in Fullerton).
The Orange County Performing Arts Center was recognized with the association’s 25-Year Award.
Also among the honorees: Sasaki Associates, with offices in Boston and San Francisco, for the University of Arizona Student Recreation Center Expansion (Merit Award); Perkins & Will, with offices across the U.S. and abroad, for the Oregon Health & Science University’s Peter O. Kohler Pavilion (Merit Award); and Architect Louis Garcia for his role as chairman of the 2010 Canstruction competition, benefiting the Orange County Food Bank.
