The Anaheim Transportation Network – or ATN – is partnering with San Clemente-based NexGen Power Group to test a diesel-to-electric conversion on two of the agency's buses for one year beginning in December.

NexGen will retrofit a 40-foot and a 22-foot diesel bus with a heavy-duty, battery-powered, zero-emission platform.

During the testing period, NexGen will be able to access the vehicles for data collection and analysis.

“This partnership is an unprecedented opportunity,” said ATN Chairman Paul Sanford. “It gives us an opportunity to further emphasize our dedication to the betterment of the environment by testing the real-life application of sustainable transit-bus technologies.”

ATN currently operates 10 electric-powered buses within its fleet of 54, which covers the city of Anaheim and the larger resort area.

“We are committed to our ridership and to the community-at-large to provide zero-emission transportation options as part of our Anaheim Resort Transit service,” said Diana Kotler, executive director of ATN.
