Advanced Medical Optics Inc. partners with Institute for Eye Research
Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics and Institute for Eye Research work together to create better contact lens products.

Advanced Medical Optics is a worldwide innovator in ophthalmic surgical devices and eye-care merchandise. Its work with the Institute for Eye Research will focus on contact lens disinfectants, cleaning solutions and other innovative eye-care accessories.
The company is excited about the research that’s ahead and the opportunities that can arise from this alliance. “IER’s world-class scientists and clinicians have had a major impact on the development of contact lenses and lens care technologies,” says the company’s executive vice president of research and development, Leonard Borrmann. “We look forward to working closely with the IER on the development of next-generation contact lens solutions.”
The Institute for Eye Research, headquartered in Sydney, Australia, is a nonprofit research organization that works with companies in the industry to conduct research on vision correction, eye care, the anterior eye, contact lenses, contact lens care and management, and avoiding complications from poor contact lens use.
“Our goal is to develop new, safer, better and more convenient initiatives in the field of contact lens cleaning and disinfection systems, including the containers for storage, cleaning and disinfection,” says IER’s CEO, Brien Holden, Ph.D., of his company’s work with Advanced Medical Optics.
