Irvine goes green with Akeena Solar Inc.

Akeena Solar, with offices peppered throughout Southern California, will continue the Irvine community’s work to be energy efficient through the Irvine Chamber of Commerce’s Go Green Committee.

Akeena Solar, the top designer and installer of solar power systems, has been tapped by Irvine to help with the city’s interest in solar energy usage. A good example of the community’s efforts – UC Irvine will build a 1.2-megawatt system on the campus’s rooftops. But the Go Green Committee is the first actual attempt at a combined community effort to make the city more environmentally conscious.

The Go Green Committee’s chairman is Akeena Solar’s Southern California regional manager, Kevin Blake. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the renewable energy industry. He has worked in developing, marketing, and selling products and service solutions in consumer and commercial markets. As chairman, Blake will work on improving the committee’s membership and creating other specific subcommittees.

“Having an Akeena Solar representative serve as chair of this committee is a real testament to the company’s dedication to community outreach,” says Jacquie Ellis, president and CEO of the Irvine Chamber of Commerce. “We are delighted to have Mr. Blake on board and look forward to working closely with him to green the city of Irvine.”

The committee now has more than 20 members and held its first meeting June 17. It will continue to have meetings monthly.
