Aliso Viejo-based Buy.com is teaming up with Fountain Valley-based  Kingston Technology Co. Inc. in order to continue the online retail marketplace's efforts to improve environmental friendliness.

The partnership aims to reduce Buy.com's carbon footprint by promising shoppers direct shipping – and the option of less packaging – with the purchase of any Kingston “Go Green” USB flash-drives and SD cards.

Kingston's memory products – which expand small electronic devices such as MP3 players, digital cameras and PDAs – are also being offered with free shipping from Buy.com.

With more than 12 million customer accounts, the efforts of Buy.com to reduce its environmental impact will surely yield substantial results. Direct shipping reduces carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption because a step in the retail supply chain in eliminated.

And Buy.com's work is already drawing attention: Carnegie Mellon University’s Green Design Institute recently featured Buy.com for the company’s notable steps toward reducing its environmental impact. The study found that online shopping through Buy.com boasts 35 percent less energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions than a traditional retail shopping model produces.
