  • The Anaheim City Council on Tuesday will consider a proposed Purchase Incentive Program that would give shoppers cash back on big-ticket items.

Mayor Curt Pringle introduced the idea during his State of the City address on Jan. 26. If the council approves the initiative, consumers would get a 50 percent rebate on local sales taxes for purchases of $20,000 or more that are made between Feb. 10 and June 30. That’s equal to one-half of 1 percent of the taxable sale.

Officials hope the program would draw people to Anaheim for major purchases and allow the city to capture sales tax revenues that may not have occurred otherwise.
