Anaheim International Film Festival gains support

Filmmakers from around the globe have submitted entries.

The inaugural Anaheim International Film Festival is quickly gaining support from filmmakers and local businesses alike – particularly retailers, restaurants and hotels, which would benefit the most from the influx of visitors the five-day festival is expected to draw. Attendance is expected to be in the thousands.

Since announcing the festival in February, organizers have secured a number of sponsors, including the city of Anaheim, Disneyland, KCOMM marketing and communications, the Shops at Anaheim GardenWalk and Cinema Entertainment Alliance. Filmmakers from as far away as Spain, Australia, South Africa and Cameroon have entered submissions, along with artists from New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles and Orange counties.

The event will run Oct. 13-17.

“The AIFF puts Anaheim on the map as a cultural destination for leisure and business travelers from around the world,” says Tony Toth, convention sales director for the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau. “I am certain that our entire hospitality community will see this as one of the most exciting and unique cultural events ever to take place in the city of Anaheim.”

In addition, film festival organizers have launched the AIFF Youth Education Program, aimed at exposing middle- and high school students to the media and other cultures, among other goals. Organizers are working with teachers, students and community leaders to attend screenings and participate in volunteer activities.

In addition to film screenings, the event will feature master classes, workshops taught by industry professionals and galas.
