‘Spring Awakening’ Orange County Performing Arts Center, Nov. 17-29 As
musicals go, this one, which nearly swept the 2007 Tony Awards,
definitely falls into the racy category. It’s a rock opera awash in
teen angst and sexuality, and though it has generated wild reviews from
coast to coast, it also reportedly prompted walkouts at nearly every performance. The national tour has played in San Diego and Los Angeles,
but this is the first time the musical will touch down in O.C. 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa 714.556.ARTS
‘Jeremy Fish: Weathering the Storm’ Laguna Art Museum, Nov. 8-Jan. 17 In
his first solo museum exhibit, the San Francisco-based illustrator and
artist brings his unique talents to the museum’s upstairs gallery. The
world premiere installation will bring Fish’s fairytale world – infused
by popular culture, cartooning and literature, such as the tales of the
Brothers Grimm – to three-dimensional life. 397 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach 949.494.8971
‘Winter Wonderettes’ Laguna Playhouse, Nov. 24-Dec. 30 This
wonderfully whimsical sequel to the off-Broadway hit “The Marvelous
Wonderettes” catches up with the same lovable characters – Missy, Suzy,
Betty Jean and Cindy Lou – as they plan an annual company Christmas
party. Santa doesn’t show, but the girls find a way to entertain, and
their efforts are delightful. Set in 1968, the play features costumes
and musical numbers that are like candy for the eyes and ears. 606 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach 949.497.2787
