Launching a new retail Web site right before the holiday season can be a risky venture. However, Fossil, the designer, manufacturer and distributor of watches, accessories and other luxury goods, decided to brave the hostile economic climate and do it anyway.

It tapped Automatic Partners LLC to help build the site and the upgraded fossil.com was relaunched in time for the Holidays and has since generated double-digit increases in traffic and sales.

Automatic led the effort by providing back-end technical development and implementation of Fossil’s “Modern Vintage” style. Automatic optimized the overall shopping experience, improved user interface and streamlined user navigation.

Using “Agile” methodologies to accelerate the time frame, the Automatic and Fossil teams utilized the IBM WebSphere Commerce platform and used the latest technologies to further enhance the site.

"Even in this economy, the overwhelming success of the Fossil.com launch shows the strength of the Fossil brand and the powerful business results that a new optimized Web site can bring,” says Philip Thompson, chief technology officer for Automatic. “It was a terrific opportunity to enhance the brand digitally, and help Fossil with their consumer-direct business."
