![]() Rankings for the list were based on votes from the publication's award panel, which measured the significance of projects and news from each company over the last year. The results were weighted by industry and region to best represent the different technologies. BlueFire was ranked because of its waste-to-energy path, which aims to increase energy independence and sustainability, as well as other factors, such as its management team and growing reputation in the field. "In addition to our domestic plans, BlueFire Ethanol is making key advances to provide full-scale commercial production of cellulosic ethanol in the global markets that have the greatest need for alternative fuel sources,” states Arnold Klann, the company's president and CEO. “Our technology not only enables BlueFire to produce cellulosic ethanol at the lowest cost of any producer, but it also negates transportation issues that plague traditional corn-based production." BlueFire has also been recognized by the California Energy Commission. It is one of four ethanol companies that garnered funds from the U.S. Department of Energy to construct ethanol production facilities in order to decrease landfill waste and increase biofuel supplies.
