Irvine-based BlueFire Ethanol received an additional $81.1 million from the U.S. Department of Energy for its Fulton, Miss., cellulosic – aka green waste – ethanol biorefinery.

This grant brings the total funding for the planned facility to $88 million – the firm had previously received $7 million in Phase I funding for the project.

"The Department of Energy's continued support of BlueFire Ethanol's project development reaffirms the viability of our technology," says BlueFire CEO Arnold Klann.
