![]() BlueFire is at the forefront of the alternative fuel industry: It is the only cellulose-to-ethanol firm worldwide that has established production of ethanol from urban trash, rice and wheat straws, and wood waste, among other agricultural deposits. And the newest allotment from the DOE further supports its work to convert cellulosic – aka green – waste into cellulosic ethanol, a renewable and economical alternative to gasoline. BlueFire was awarded a $40 million grant from the federal agency in 2007, and the additional funds cover the costs associated with basic engineering development of the facility.
