The Boeing Co.'s Huntington Beach facility has inked a $42.9 million deal with the U.S. Navy. The five-year contract is part of the Navy's work to build, operate and modernize the DDG-51 class guided missile destroyers.

The USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) is one of the guided
missile destroyers that will utilize the Gigabit Ethernet Data
Multiplex System to manage data.

"Boeing has worked with its Navy customer for more than 35 years to upgrade and enhance mission-critical information-transfer systems, ensuring major shipboard systems can communicate with each other," says Jay Nieto, Boeing Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Optic Data Multiplex System program manager. "This flexible, cost-effective network provides optimal shipboard control."

Through the agreement, Boeing will continue to upgrade data multiplex system (DMS) networks, manage engineering changes, update technical documentation and develop interface design programs for both new and refurbished ships, according to the company. Boeing will also provide installation support, system configuration management and test sites and facilities.
