Irvine-based Brandman University has named David A. Janes its new Board of Regents chairman. The CEO of Janes Capital Partners is a retired rear admiral in the U.S. Navy and serves as chairman of the Department of Defense Advisory Board for Employer Relations.

He’s held numerous leadership positions on various boards, serving as chairman of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the Board of Counselors for the Argyros School of Business and Economics, and the Orange County Council of Boy Scouts.

“David brings to Brandman an extraordinary military resume,” says Chancellor Gary Brahm. “Since its inception, Brandman University has remained committed to providing higher education opportunities to service men and women. David’s experience and expertise will be incredible assets as we look to strengthen that legacy.”

Janes replaces former Chairman Jerry Cwiertnia, who had been with Brandman since 2007 and led the school through its transition from Chapman University College. Under his leadership, the university launched a number of degree programs, including the undergraduate business and MBA degrees in January, and the school’s nursing degree program, which begin in the fall. He remains a member of the Chapman University Board of Trustees.

Brandman University is made up of more than 10,000 working students and offers classes online and at 25 campuses throughout California and Washington. It has awarded more than 200 credentials, certificates and professional development programs.
