![]() The symposium will showcase the differences in late-stage detection of the disease among local ethnic populations, according to a recent community assessment conducted by the organization and UC Irvine. The Komen/UCI Data Project reported that insufficient health insurance and lower socioeconomic status are primary factors for increased mortality in women with breast cancer in the region. Dr. Hoda Anton-Culver, chairwoman of the department of epidemiology at UCI and lead researcher for the project, will also give a keynote address on the disparities in breast health education and access to services in Orange County, as well as the importance of quickly taking care of these issues.
