New firm aims to advance women in leadership roles

Business Women Rising provides mentoring, coaching and management consulting.

A leadership development firm launched this month will provide mentoring programs, executive coaching and management consulting to professionals across the ranks.

While the services are available to both sexes, Newport Beach-based Business Women Rising was created with a goal of advancing the presence and effectiveness of women in leadership roles.

According to a recent report by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, only 2.5 out of 10 chief executives are women – a statistic that Business Women Rising wants to change. And a 19-year Pepperdine University study that examined 215 Fortune 500 companies found that firms with the best record of promoting women to high-ranking positions were 18 to 69 percent more profitable than other organizations in the same industries.

“Our tagline is ‘Success Just Got Easier,’ and that is what we strive for,” said Debra Boelkes, the firm’s founder, president and CEO. “We aim to help businesswomen at all career levels become successful leaders, so that they not only achieve their full potential, but also drive more profitable growth for their organizations.”

Tailored on-site corporate programs are also offered by the company.

Seminars scheduled for the coming months will cover a variety of topics, including The Art of Negotiating and Influencing, Managing Conflict and Appreciative Leadership for Women.

Two peer-to-peer mentoring programs – Monte Vista and Prima Vista, which are geared toward advanced and first-line managers respectively – will meet monthly in groups of up to 20.

Three other women sit with Boelkes at the helm of the new firm: Pam Hedges, managing director of the Monte Vista program; Susan Gerke, managing director of the Prima Vista program; and Tenny Poole, managing director of consulting and training services. The founding executives each bring more than 25 years of professional leadership experience with Fortune 500 companies.

“Our goal is to be a one-stop resource that helps businesswomen and enterprises accelerate their growth," said Boelkes.
