Katie Nguyen, a sophomore in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics at Cal State Fullerton recently garnered the $2,500 Diversity Scholarship from The Waltos Group of Northwestern Mutual and Northwestern Mutual Foundation. ![]() Kate Eder, director of recruiting at The Waltos Group, Katie Nguyen, scholarship recipient, and Kyle Kierulff, college unit director, pause together. Nguyen, a Fullerton resident, was chosen for the award based on her application and "Roadmap of My Life" essay, in which she narrates her journey to academic success and what she sees herself doing in the future. “I am not only grateful in accepting this grant, but honored for the opportunity to work closely with a mentor from the company to broaden my knowledge and experience,” Nguyen says. Nguyen is currently studying business and administration with an emphasis in accounting. She expects to gradate in May 2011. And she shines through her work: With a 3.5 gpa, Nguyen is on the Dean's List and participates in the university's honors program. She also volunteers with a number of campus and community organizations. Among them: Americorps Service Program and the Fullerton Public Library.
