![]() An estimated 300 attendees were treated to 21 "small bites" provided by 16 Southern California chefs. The plates were critiqued by a panel of celebrity judges, including food critic, author and television star Simon Majumdar and Cathy Thomas, food expert and Orange County Register columnist. The 1st Place award was given to Palm Terrace Restaurant at the Island Hotel for its S’more Taco. The Pacific Club's Roasted Root Vegetable Bisque received the 2nd Place award, and the 3rd Place honor was presented to The City Club at Bunker Hill for its Mole Heirloom Tomato Salad. Additionally, the event’s guests named Crème de la Crème’s Short Rib Chili for the People’s Choice Award. Small Bites for Big Causes' guests included “The Next Food Network Star’s” finalists Jyll Everman and Katy Clark, who were joined by staff from Bistango, Britta’s Café, Crème de la Crème, Mastro’s Steakhouse and Nirvana Grille. Hotels participating in the competition included the Island Hotel, Pelican Hill Resort, the Temecula Creek Inn and Wyndham Orange County. Other private clubs represented at the event included The City Club at Bunker Hill, the Mesa Verde Country Club, the Pacific Club and the University Club Atop Symphony Towers. Shahin Vosough, Center Club general manager, said, “Our club is very pleased and proud that our debut tasting event was received so well by the public and participating chefs.
