With the economy still in turmoil, it can be difficult for even the biggest and most recognizable businesses to stay afloat. So when Don Myers and Peter Serantoni made the decision to open Cha Cha’s Tacos & Tequila, they knew they would face many obstacles. Yet, just a little more than a year later, Cha Cha’s Tacos & Tequila is thriving, earning the eatery the Business of the Year Award from the Brea Chamber of Commerce.

Since opening in August 2009, Cha Cha’s has seen a healthy increase in sales – December profits were up 75 percent from the same month in 2009.

It’s all in the quality, said Myers, co-owner of Cha Cha’s Tacos & Tequila.

“The quality of our food, cocktails, service and hospitality is the cornerstone of our business," he said, "and we are honored to have won this award.”

The community of Brea is also a big part of Cha Cha’s Tacos & Tequila’s success, and Myers couldn’t be happier with the restaurant's location.

“We are proud that we opened our business in Brea and that we are members of the Brea community,” he said.

Quality food and community approval isn’t the only ingredient to Cha Cha’s success.

“You need to have the passion and drive,” said Brea Chamber of Commerce Chairman Michael Duran, a senior vice president and manager at Citizens Business Bank. “It was through a lot of hard work, never giving up and a strong consistent marketing campaign.”

Offering up a unique spin on traditional Mexican cuisine, Cha Cha’s Tacos & Tequila uses quality seasonal and organic ingredients, and prepares them in a wood-fired oven. The eatery's menu also features a variety of fresh house-made fire-roasted salsa, accentuating the natural flavors found in every Latin-inspired dish. That same idea is carried over to the drink menu, where only the freshest juices, house-made sour mixes and 100 percent Blue Agave Tequilas are combined to create the most delicious hand-crafted cocktails.

Cha Cha’s Tacos & Tequila is located at 110 W. Birch St.
