![]() Clarient Insight Dx Pulmotype Test will help physicians classify specific types of lung cancer. The exam is expected to determine more effective therapies using a panel of biomarkers on tumor samples. The new test was clinically validated for sub-classifying patients with non-small cell lung cancer, which accounts for 85 percent of the 200,000 lung cancer cases diagnosed every year. Non-small cell lung cancer is further classified by the test into adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma subtypes. "Given the types of therapies on the market today, the kind of information generated from a panel like Pulmotype can make a big difference in how a patient is treated," says Ken Bloom, M.D., Clarient's chief medical officer. "The correct pathology assessment is essential for therapeutic decision making, given the powerful new drugs currently on the market to treat lung cancer, such as Avastin and Alimta.” NEXT PAGE >> Related headlines Irvine-based Quality Systems acquires Opus Healthcare Santa Ana's Ingram Micro teams with NextGen Healthcare Tustin's Toshiba gets FDA nod |
