“We have been experiencing an unprecedented number of requests for help
from families in our community,” says Margie Wakeham, executive
director of Families Forward. “And for most of these families this is
an entirely new situation.
“We are thrilled at the response
from the community, including the city of Irvine, the county, Irvine
Valley College and of course all of the healthcare, legal, professional
and other organizations that are participating,” continues Wakeham.
“Best of all, it is all free.”
Free workshops range from
foreclosure prevention to medical services and include health insurance
enrollment and referrals. Consultations in such areas as career,
housing and financial are also available.
Children’s activities
such as face painting, arts and crafts, reading and free books and a
puppet show will keep the kids entertained.
