![]() The Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA), founded in 1900 by 10 car enthusiasts, serves more than 6 million residents in Southern California. Regarded for its 24-hour roadside assistance program, the not-for-profit service organization received the highest marks in all 28 values in this year’s survey. It was also the first company since the inception of the Most Trustworthy Brands study to lead the other brands by such a high margin. “For more than 100 years, the Auto Club’s strategy has been to put members first,” says Michael Johnson, senior vice president, Member Services. “Our overarching statement to members: ‘We’re Always With You.’ We know that members depend on us being there when we say we will, with roadside assistance, travel plans or an insurance claim. We review our operations and services through the eyes of our members with the goal of providing top-quality service.” In addition to insurance policies, travel discounts and the oversight of independently inspected and approved automotive maintenance services, the Auto Club has led the charge in several highway and transportation programs. AAA sponsored the state’s Graduated Driver Licensing law, which went into effect in 1998. Nearly 700 deaths and injuries were prevented statewide during the first three years since the law was enacted. The organization also advocates for safe and adequate roads, and works to ensure that any increased transportation taxes and fees are used only for transportation purposes.
