Ria Marie Carlson has a new high-profile job: This month she became the Associate Vice Chancellor of Strategic Communications for UC Irvine. Her responsibilities include brand management, media and community relations; university-wide marketing; digital and visual media development; university development; and fundraising. Carlson previously served as the senior vice president of Communications and Brand Management for Ingram Micro Inc., the world’s largest technology distributor.
Advice to women in business: “Speak up. Based on my experience, it seems women are less likely than men to voice their opinions or ask for the next big job or assignment.”
