As Orange County’s emergency services manager, the public’s safety is Donna Boston’s business. She oversees the Emergency Management Bureau of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The county’s overall emergency preparedness is under her watchful eye; Boston is responsible for overseeing all phases of emergency management, including preparedness, response and recovery. During her 15-year career, she has responded to numerous emergencies, including floods, landslides, major wildfires and earthquakes. “No day is the same,” she says. “There are no perfect solutions in disaster management. I love working with heroes from law enforcement, fire services, public works, healthcare – the agencies respond when there are lives at stake.”
Biggest challenge in 2012: Bringing together volunteer, nonprofit, business and non-governmental agencies to leverage their capabilities for disaster response.
