![]() Executive director of operations Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Irvine Hot factor: Heads a top medical facility while introducing teens to their first exposures to healthcare professions Marcy Brown always knew she’d work in healthcare. “As a teenager, I begged my parents to let me volunteer at Northridge Community Hospital,” Brown says. “And it became the highlight of my teenage years. I knew that my future would be in healthcare.” She’s come a long way from delivering mail and flowers to patients to her current position as executive director of operations at Hoag Hospital Irvine. Her role includes instructing teens who are in the same position that she was at that age. “They’re so excited, and the exposure is great for them, and I help them see the same rewards that I did,” says Brown. She admits her work creates tremendous time demands, but setting healthy boundaries and being very task oriented and organized helps her cope. “When I have to work late hours I’ll go work out,” Brown says. On weekends she and her husband often go boating and head out to Catalina Island. “By the time I get back I’m recharged and ready to get back to work,” Brown says. Other times when she feels overwhelmed she takes a walk around the hospital as a way to remind herself of the difference she makes. “I find inspiration from the doctors, the staff and the patients. They all make me feel as if I make a difference. It’s an indescribable feeling,” she says.
