The Ocean Institute is a nonprofit education center with a mission of inspiring all generations to become responsible stewards of Earth’s oceans. It serves more than 115,000 students each year with its immersion-based programs in marine science, maritime history and outdoor education. Its flagship environmental program, the 5th Grade Watershed Education Program, sponsored by Miocean, teaches fifth-graders from throughout Orange County about the science of watersheds and how humans negatively affect their surrounding environment. It also challenges those students to tackle science projects focusing on environmental concerns in their own community.
“The Ocean Institute strives to lead by example,” says Bentley Cavazzi, COO of Ocean Institute. “By incorporating eco-friendly measures into our workplace, we show firsthand how easy it is to shift one’s habits from ‘disposable’ to ‘reusable.’”
