![]() UC Irvine has been widely honored for its green achievements: The Sierra Club named it the sixth greenest university in the nation, and it received California’s most prestigious environmental honor, the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for Climate Change. Ten buildings at UC Irvine carry the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification, and it is home to the new California Plug Load Research Center (CalPlug), a public-private partnership funded by the California Energy Commission to improve energy efficiency in the design of consumer electronics and appliances. UCI’s ZotWheels program was the first automated bike-sharing program in California and the second at an American university. And in 2009, UCI’s undergraduates voted to create the Green Initiative Fund, assessing themselves $3.50 per quarter to generate $120,000 annually to fund projects to make the campus more sustainable. “UC Irvine is pleased to be recognized as a member of OC METRO’s Green Team and to be part of a larger community that shares its green values,” says Dr. Michael V. Drake, chancellor of UC Irvine. “We are proud of our longstanding role as pioneers in the area of sustainability research and take very seriously our role as stewards of the extraordinary property that is home to our campus.” ![]() OC METRO'S 2012 GREEN TEAM
