![]() Historically, demolishing a house or building meant filling up a landfill. The Deconstruction & ReUse Network is a nonprofit organization that wants to change that by finding a new location for building materials that otherwise would be discarded. The organization partners with charities such as the Recycling Network and Habitat for Humanity to facilitate the reuse of building materials. Since its founding in 2007, it has diverted more than 3,000 tons of materials from public landfills. “Planning is the key to savings, both environmental and financial,” says Lorenz Schilling, founder and president of the Deconstruction & ReUse Network. “Deconstruction offers the single largest opportunity for saving in most projects. Don’t let the first phase of your project be the last thing you think about!” ![]() OC METRO'S 2012 GREEN TEAM
