Golden State Foods is one of the largest diversified suppliers to the food-service industry, working with more than 20,000 restaurants on six continents. McDonald’s recognized GSF as its Best of Sustainable Supply in 2010 and 2012. The company has an assigned “sustainability champion” at each of its facilities, and its green efforts include fueling trucks with biodiesel fuel, improving energy efficiency in its buildings and trucks and promoting recycling to reduce landfill waste.
“At GSF, we have long recognized that in order for sustainability efforts to be successful, we need to integrate it as part of our business strategy in such a manner that [it] encompasses environmental, social and economic aspects,” says Mark Wetterau, GSF chairman and CEO. “We believe in, and have [gone] beyond, expected business practices to embrace our responsibility to our people, customers, communities and our planet.”
