Hyundai Motor America offers an employee benefit package that is highly competitive: a 401(k) plan with employer match, insurance coverage, 13 paid holidays, and vacation and sick pay. The automaker encourages its employees to further their educations by reimbursing them up to $5,250 annually on such expenses. It also boasts a range of prime office amenities – from an on-site cafeteria to a basketball court and fitness center. Employees can lease Hyundai cars for their own personal use at a discount, while managers get the use of one car free, plus a chance to lease two more.
But just as appealing as the benefits is the company’s workplace culture, which – from the top down – puts a focus on innovation, teamwork and social responsibility.
“One of the things that distinguishes us in the industry is that we have a lean, focused team,” says CEO John Krafcik. “We strive to minimize corporate bureaucracy as best as we can. We also have a unique internal motto here to never set a target that we know how to hit. That keeps us hungry and gives everyone the opportunity to innovate new ideas.”
Hyundai’s focus on social responsibility gives employees the chance to work for more than the bottom line, Krafcik adds. The automaker is already committed to keeping its position as the most fuel-efficient automaker in America. And it has set a goal to help cure pediatric cancer through its Hope on Wheels campaign. So far, that company effort has raised more than $14 million.
“That provides a level of inspiration that moves the team together,” says Krafcik. “We are working for something larger than ourselves, trying to be a force for broader social good.”
