City where located: Irvine
Number of employees: 90 in California, 1,736 companywide
What the company does: Real estate investment trust

Why we like them: Camden employees can stay in furnished corporate apartments all over the country for just $20 a night. What a huge perk for travel bugs!

For three straight years, Camden Property Trust has been named to the Fortune 100 list of Best Companies to Work For, rising to No. 10 in 2010. Employees who work at the company – which owns and operates more than 180 properties with more than 63,000 apartment homes – rave about the fun culture and enviable benefits.

Employees get up to a 20 percent rent discount to live in Camden apartments. When they travel – even on vacation – they can reserve furnished apartments for a one-week stay for just $20 a night, including in hot spots like Florida and Washington, D.C.

The company offers comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage, a matching 401(k) plan, partial tuition reimbursement and other educational support, and a program that allows employees to buy Camden stock at a 15 percent discount.

Regional Vice President Melinda Graham says that Camden management and employees alike share a sense of fun, which makes work a joy. The company’s founders, Richard Campo and Keith Oden, often perform skits at company meetings (including dressing up as Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus). So, at a conference earlier this year, 400 employees returned the favor by performing a choreographed dance for executives, with moves set to the tune “I Gotta Feeling.”

“This amazing display was one of the most emotionally powerful experiences of our professional lives. It was the culmination of our skit tradition and a defining moment in Camden’s cultural journey,” Graham says. “What everyone did in planning, practicing and executing the dance was truly incredible.” (You can see Camden’s flash mob dance online at bit.ly/d4oOWM.)
