bbklaw.com

Age: 42
City of residence: Fullerton

Who or what inspires you: I am inspired by my faith, my family and by people who strive to make their communities better places in which to enjoy life.
Advice to other women in business: Be authentic and strive every day to be the best version of yourself, as we continuously learn from our successes and our failures. Believe that you can learn from every person you interact with (especially 4-year-olds). Remember that you are your own greatest critic, and when faced with a challenge, disappointment or even an outright mistake, be kind to yourself and remind yourself that “this too shall pass.”
Best vacation ever: Camping at Makalawena Beach, on the Big
Island, Hawaii

« Sonia Carvalho is a managing partner in the Public Law Department at Best Best and Krieger’s Irvine office. Oh, and she also serves as city attorney for Yorba Linda, Azusa and Claremont, where she advises a variety of redevelopment agencies.

And, as if those accomplishments weren’t enough to list on her curriculum vitae, how’s this: She was recently involved in a precedent-setting medical marijuana case, which upheld a lower court’s permanent injunction preventing a medical marijuana dispensary from operating in Claremont.

She is a member of the Mexican-American Bar Association of Los Angeles, has volunteered with the West End Legal Aid Clinic, and is one of the region’s most notable women minority lawyers. And she’s credited for helping Best Best and Krieger become one of the top 10 racially diverse law firms in the nation, according to the Minority Law Journal.

So it’s no surprise that Carvalho has received numerous accolades, including being named among OC METRO’s list of Orange County’s Top Lawyers and appearing on the list Southern California Super Lawyers last year.
