Fortunately for the public relations industry, Gabriel E. Serrato-Buelna decided to forgo his original goal of broadcast journalism: “I saw O.J. and decided I didn’t want to be a part of that world.” So he found the perfect alternative to suit his personality – public relations. He says it feeds his need to stay current and his passion for spotting trends. “Each company has its own rhyme and reason for wanting press,” he says. “Some clients want more traffic for their Web site. Some clients need to clean up their image. But they all need press to stay current, fresh and valuable, so it further values their brand.”
His client list includes Jeremy Piven, the Anaheim White House and Martina Navratilova – “an amazing client,” he says. He’s also instrumental in the annual AIDS/LifeCycle seven-day 500-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. In addition, Serrato-Buelna worked on the 2002 campaign for Rep. Linda Sanchez, whose election marked the first time two sisters served in Congress at the same time. He is effusive about his business and, well, everything else. “Every day is a day in this perfect world that affords me to live in it,” he says. “I wouldn’t change a thing.”
