JEREMY YAMAGUCHI
City Council member for Placentia
Jeremy Yamaguchi constantly rushes back and forth between Placentia City Hall and Cal State Fullerton, attending council meetings and classes, passing ordinances and taking tests. At only 19 years old, Yamaguchi is a member of the Placentia City Council – and the youngest elected official in Orange County.
Most important lesson learned:
Don’t give up, even if you set a vision and don’t get there, because it may not be the place you are supposed to go. I ran for student council president in elementary, middle school and high school. I failed to win a seat but was successful in obtaining a seat on the City Council. As I look back, I realize I learned something from every opportunity to get me where I am today.
Next big step:
I plan to graduate from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in political science, minor in music and masters in public administration, and then complete my law degree in Southern California. I also hope to advance my political career in order to represent and serve the citizens of my community, state and country.
Advice for other young professionals:
It is important to keep the morals and ideals of what this country was founded on foremost in every decision we make.
What you do for fun:
Motivational speaking, volunteering in the community – Placentia Heritage Parade and Festival, Placentia Neighborhood Watch, Placentia Recycle Ream and the Cultural Arts Commission. I also enjoy researching issues facing our city and state, spending time with family, eating sushi, golfing, Boy Scouts of America and Order of the Arrow.
If you could have dinner with anyone – alive or dead – who would it be and why?
It would be with my grandfather because I miss him, and I know he would be proud of me.
