There’s a definite individuality to each of Kerry Johnson Anthony’s companies. Susan’s Healthy Gourmet (founded by her mother, Susan) delivers fresh, healthy meals to people’s homes. LifeSpring HomeNutrition prepares meals for the elderly with health concerns “to help them live in their homes longer.” And Xan Confections is all about chocolate. Whether someone is diabetic or vegan or has a gluten-free diet, “nobody should have to go without chocolate,” Anthony says. “It’s the small luxuries in a bad economy that do well. People need to give themselves a treat.”
Anthony calls her companies “a collaborative effort,” and she makes sure her 70 employees are treated well. “No one comes through here who I don’t know what their dreams are. If this [job] is a stepping stone for them, I’ll help them get the skills that they need. No one is as smart as all of us.” In return, her employees pay it forward to customers. “One of our customer service representatives sends birthday and anniversary cards to our clients.”
