RIB HILLIS Actor, model, father and a designer on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”
Orange County resident Rib Hillis has been making a name for himself on TV and the big screen. He won a leading role in the 2008 drama “Taos,” while also tackling roles in “CSI” and “Law and Order.” He has most recently been working as part of the design team on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Most important lesson learned: Humility – to be aware of ones own shortcomings. I have been guilty of hubris in the past and paid the price. When you are truly honest with yourself, with who you are, your strengths and weaknesses, you not only can have more compassion for others, but you can be a better person.
Next big step: I plan to continue to work on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” (We’re about to start season seven.) And I also plan to pursue other acting projects, both scripted and nonscripted (reality).
Advice for other young professionals: You never know when opportunity will knock, so prepare yourself for that day, because it will come and you want to be ready. When it does, give it 100 percent, so you have no regrets. And never stop learning and trying to better yourself.
What you do for fun: Play – a lot – with my kids. Seeing the world through a child’s eyes is a great way to rejuvenate.
If you could have dinner with anyone – alive or dead – who would it be and why? Alexander the Great – I would want to see what a man who conquered much of the known world, way before 40, was like: his passion, intensity, charisma. I bet his dinner parties were a night to remember!
