ALLYSON AMES
President and co-founder of Wonderland Bakery
Success couldn’t be sweeter for 23-year-old Allyson Ames. As the 2008 recipient of the California Business of the Year award, presented by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sen. Tom Harmon, Ames has been recognized for both her delicious goodies and for her philanthropic contributions to the Thanks a Million Cookies and Cupcakes Foundation. She’s also featured in the newest bestselling book series by Mark Victor Hansen, “The Richest Kids in America: How They Earn It, How They Spend It, How You Can Too.”
Most important lesson learned:
If you create a happy and delicious, unique experience for each customer and never compromise quality or service, you will build a loyal following, and your business will flourish with abundance.
Next big step:
Nationwide retail expansion. Filming a “Wonderlicious” reality TV show. Holiday 2009 will include 50 new edible and non-edible Wonderland Bakery products. Book launch and tour with “Chicken Soup for the Soul” author Mark Victor Hansen. Expand our board of directors.
Advice for other young professionals:
When you are dedicated to a mission bigger than yourself, it involves long hours and hard work. This is the part where passion plays a significant role, because when you are doing what you were born to do, the world is the sweetest place.
What you do for fun:
Create new recipes, collect cookbooks, read, walk my Shelties on the beach and dream Wonderliciously
If you could have dinner with anyone – alive or dead – who would it be and why?
Walt Disney. His creative genius helped make the world a more magical and amazing place, and he has been a great inspiration in creating my dream. Johnny Depp, too! Hopefully I will meet him when we deliver the cookies, cakes and confections for Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” movie premiere.
