MICHAEL C. CARROLL
Founder of CorpGen Counsel
Michael Carroll is not only an accomplished corporate attorney who saves Orange County companies significant amounts of money, he is a best-selling author. Carroll created CorpGen Counsel, which is innovating new ways for companies to provide in-house legal counsel without adding staff. At the same time, his book “Lab 257,” published by HarperCollins, has made its way to the New York Times best-seller list.
Most important lesson learned:
If you have an overwhelming, consuming passion to do something, you must go for it, and give it everything you’ve got. I had an idea to write a book about something I couldn’t stop thinking about. I knew if I didn’t pursue it, I would always regret not trying. Well, that idea seven years later became a New York Times bestseller.
Next big step:
Continue to change the face of business counsel for venture-
backed private and public companies, and write another book.
Advice for other young professionals:
Work hard now, and go the extra mile in your professional efforts – it will establish a lifetime work ethic that will attract success. The linear career paths our parents had are gone. But the good news is, they no longer constrain you. You can work virtually from your desk on a global basis, and successful people accept this as the business norm. It’s fun, but get ready for those early morning conference calls from New York and Europe, and late night calls from Asia.

Writing, skiing and mountain biking

Gen. Douglas MacArthur – MacArthur stands among the top military strategists of all time. He was an ardent student of history and helped birth America’s position as a superpower. He would have been one of our truly great presidents.
