TODD HENDERSON
CEO and co-founder of INK
Since co-founding INK two years ago, Henderson has taken his marketing firm to new heights as a trusted strategic partner of companies such as Cox, Warner Brothers, DirectTV and others. His success isn’t surprising when you consider his track record. Prior to launching INK, he worked as a lead character animator at Dreamworks’ video game division. And by the time he hit 27, Henderson had become the co-chief creative officer for Viant, a $2 billion Internet consulting firm.
Most important lesson learned:
Life is a journey; enjoy the trip. I’ve found that even when things seem bleak, there are always things to be thankful for. I truly love what I do for a living, so regardless of how bad a day, week or month may seem, I try to always keep everything in perspective and soak in the scenery.
Next big step:
We’re continually looking to expand INK’s footprint and impact on the Southern California creative community. As such, we’re opening an extended education program called The INKSpot, where students get a real-world glimpse into the agency world. Graduates will be armed with the tools, network and mindset needed to make a real impact on the advertising industry.
Advice for other young professionals:
Never compromise. It’s easy to succumb to your clients’ demands sometimes in watering down great work. Approach each creative challenge as if it’s your greatest passion, and great work is bound to emerge.
What you do for fun:
I play basketball, golf, mountain bike, go hiking and camping with my kids.
If you could have dinner with anyone – alive or dead – who would it be and why?
Theoretical physicist Michio Kaku – I am deeply interested in concepts like string theory, multiple dimensions, quantum physics, etc. Sitting down with someone who is a leader in this field and has the imagination and vision of Dr. Kaku would be phenomenal.
