There are people in the music business who are devoid of passion for the art. They treat their artists like products and focus only on the almighty dollar. Filson wanted to play a role in changing that. So in March 2008, he opened a recording studio for musicians by musicians.
The combination of studio and label allows bands to release their music when and how they want to. “Our model – immune to any changes in technology – allows artists to save money, retain control of their art and follow their strategy to an attainable career, all while retaining 100 percent of their sales revenue,” he says. Filson says that every function of a record company can be outsourced to a third party.
